28th Annual Frozen Butt Rendezvous

When the club initially organized they held several rendezvous type shoots. The event that seemed to attract the most interest was the winter shoot held in February. The first few shoots in February were just called a winter rendezvous. It soon became apparent that while the participants were enjoying themselves they were also freezing their backsides off. Thus the name "Frozen Butt" naturally evolved.

The first official Frozen Butt was held on Mill Creek between Alta Vista and Alma. After several fairly successful years they moved a little closer to Manhattan. A tree farm just south of I-70 became the next home for the Frozen Butt. Attempting to get even closer to town the shoot then moved to an old rock quarry just outside of Manhattan. This was the home of the Frozen Butt for several more years until the quarry sold and was put back into operation. So in 1996 by matter of default they were forced to hold the 16th Annual Frozen Butt at a club members farm west of Frankfort Kansas. While you would be hard pressed to find a nicer area it was located so far from Manhattan they feared that no one would come. For this reason the shoot was advertised as being held in a temporary location. This fear proved wrong, the first year in this new location broke their record number of registered shooters.

Due to the great shooting and camping opportunities provided at this new location the shoot has grown in size and popularity every year since. In 2000 the 20th anniversary Frozen Butt, at their no longer temporary location, had well over 110 registered shooters with over 100 additional campers and visitors. The 2003 Frozen Butt was the biggest ever with over 60 camps and over 130 shooters. With participants coming from all over the state of Kansas as well as Nebraska, Missouri and Oklahoma the Frozen Butt has become one of the largest muzzleloading events in the state of Kansas. We look forward to many great rendezvous to come.

• Animal Walk- The animal walk consists of 20 to 25 rifle shots. The course is over 1/4 mile long featuring life size steel silhouettes from rabbits and coyotes to an 8 foot tall moose. Targets may be stationary, moving or pop up.
  
  
• Big Game Hunt- This shoot has several shots at a Moose, Elk, Bear, Buffalo, Deer, Cougar, and Antelope. These shots will be of varying distances and varying levels of difficulty.
  
  
• Buffalo Hunt- There is a 20 head heard of buffalo at varying distances out to 175 yards. You can only shoot the bulls. You will get 10 rifle shots, 2 each at five bulls. The kill zone is a steel gong. You have to ring it to get the kill.
  
  
• Seneca Run- Our Seneca run is an easy run with just a few rifle shots and several other challenges.
  
  
• Pistol Walk- The pistol walk consists of a 15 to 20 shot walk, also with life size steel silhouettes. This is not a course for the faint of heart, but it is fun.
  
  
• Knife & Hawk- Our knife and hawk could be anything from a standard throw to a very complex walk with a variety of obstacles and challenges.
  
  
• Shotgun Walk- Our shotgun walk is second to none with 15 to 25 birds coming at you, away from you, in the tress, in the open, down in the creek and any where else we can dream up. This is a shoot to plan for.
  

Every year we present a Grand Agg. prize as well as a prize for first place in each individual event. This way you can shoot only the events you want to and still have a chance of winning. Then we will line everyone else up, mix them up, and run them by the prize table to pick up a prize. We have hundreds of dollars worth of very nice prizes. Using this method every one gets a prize, and the last place shooter may get one of the nicest prizes.

• Open iron sights, patched round ball only

• No loaded guns in camp, However CCH is respected
  
• Fire buckets in all camps
  
• All Pets and Livestock on a leash and under control
  
• Period dress requested but not required

• Use a Fire Box if at all possible, some fire barrels are available on site
  
• Firewood available
  
• Separate primitive and modern camps
  
• At least one regestered shooter in every camp, no additional camp fees
  
• Please respect the sport and keep painted canvas traditional
  
• Saturday night meal for all registered shooters and their families
